Has anyone else been feeling stuck?

Lately, I’ve noticed that a lot of my clients are bringing this topic to their sessions.  I’m trying to figure out why.  I hear what they are saying, and we discuss goals and create strategies for getting unstuck.

However, the fact that this is on a global level has me thinking why are people feeling stuck?

Maybe it’s because it is summer, and things slow down a bit.  Maybe there is some fun and excitement missing from their lives.  Or perhaps, we have so many demands placed on us either internally, externally, or both that we can’t and/or don’t want to deal with the demands.

Who Feels Stuck?

Your routine is the same.  You get up every day and do pretty much the same thing.  It seems like there is not much fun or excitement in life. Everything is the same and this has you feeling down, well actually like you are stuck in a rut.

How Do You Get Unstuck?

I know a lot of people do not like feeling as if they are in a lull or being unproductive. I certainly don’t. I love having things to do and thrive on having many to-do lists.  I love the feeling of crossing off an item that has been accomplished. I feel such success and satisfaction and I get energized.

On the flip side, when I have less to do, I feel like I am stuck in a rut.  I feel like I have fallen into a routine and cannot get myself out of it.

Is this just me, or can anyone else relate?

Here are some strategies for getting unstuck:

  1. Celebrate your accomplishments. You did the hard work, and you deserve the success.
  2. Be grateful for the achievements.
  3. Recognize that you do not always have to be doing something.
  4. Allow for relaxation and down time and not feel guilty.
  5. Shake things up.
  6. Get out of your comfort zone.
  7. Try a new activity.
  8. Get out into nature.
  9. Reach out to an old friend and see what they are up to.  Make a plan to get together.
  10. Find some new tasks to accomplish.

Having gratitude

In addition to the list above, whenever I feel stuck in a rut, I start to think about gratitude.  I have so much to be grateful for.  I have a body that can function.  I have a brain that allows me to think and create.  I have family and friends who adore me, champion my successes, and push me to go further.

Gratitude allows you to center yourself so that you can move forward and move out of the rut.

Let’s work together to get unstuck.
